Johannsen & Co., 149 Minories, London, spring detent marine chronometer with 56-hour winding indicator, circa 1918, mounted in gimbaled brass tub within three-tier brass bound mahogany box, silvered dial of approximately 4 inch diameter signed "A. Johannsen & Co., Makers to the Admiralty, The Indian Gov't & Royal Navies of Italy, Spain & Portugal, 149 Minories, London," KWKS, fully capped Earnshaw spring detent escapement, 10J, bi-metallic balance with helical hairspring, spotted damascene, s#8275 with matching serial number within tub. CONDITION:
Mvt: Running though key with piece does not fit so function was tested with a different key, good winding indicator function, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered spotting and fine to micro-fine scratches; dial with some scattered mild spots, few fine scratches, small loss to coloring in some of the hour numerals, mild perimeter wear under bezel; fine seconds-hand with oxide, other hands excellent; tub and gimbals with substantial finish loss, areas of oxide, glass crystal with large scratch through center, some lesser scratches and a small flake at perimeter; box in excellent cosmetic condition overall, some exterior scratches with the most significant at the right side of the front, lacking its locking key.
